Bethel Academy has an ongoing program to assure 100% safety and security of
each and every cadet.

Policy in regard to Reporting and Resolving Allegations of Abuse.
- Any event or issue where abuse is witnessed or suspected is to be reported
to the appropriate personnel immediately.
- No situation of concern shall be ignored or discounted as unimportant.
Every issue where alleged or confirmed abuse has occurred shall be resolved
quickly,
accurately and impartially.
Definitions of Abuse and Neglect
- Abuse and Mistreatment:
Physical Aggression, an attack upon an individual's physical person that
causes or could cause injury.
Corporal Punishment, an act of force to inflict pain administered as
punishment for acts of misbehavior.
- Verbal Abuse:
Insulting language such as profanities or obscenities, cursing a cadet
Ridiculing, teasing, making fun, using nicknames for the cadet not normally
used as his given or nick name.
Badgering, confusing, or frightening a cadet with false statements.
- Sexual Abuse including but not limited to intrusion into the cadet's sexuality,
touching the cadet in an improper way and or any sexual display, or proposal
of such display or act.
- Physical Neglect which encompasses providing adequate supervision, support
services, or interaction to protect physical, emotional and mental health
from harm or endangerment.
- Social Neglect which relates to providing a supportive and humane living
environment or meaningful rehabilitation program promoting the cadet's social
development.
Reporting and Disposition Requirements
- Any staff person witnessing neglect, mistreatment or abuse must intervene
and stop the abuse.
- Any staff person that witnesses, knows of, hears of or otherwise has knowledge
of neglect, mistreatment or abuse must report it to the Director or designated
contact in the Director's absence immediately.
- An inquiry must be convened regarding the matter of alleged abuse or neglect
within 24 hours of its occurrence.
- If abuse or neglect is indicated as a result of the evidence presented
in the inquiry, Department of Human services is to be advised via a written
report
as soon as is humanly possible.
- If there was a possible injury to the cadet, medical attention must be
given immediately. The administering person shall prepare a report of the
initial
findings and forward that report to the Doctor that sees the cadet for
additional treatment.
- The Director shall conduct a through and complete investigation of the
incident and circumstances. The findings of that report shall be forwarded
to the
appropriate authorities. if the need for corrective action in the program
policies or procedures be detected, those changes will be initiated and implemented.
This synopsis of the Abuse and Neglect Policy reinforces the long term commitment
we at Bethel Academy have to provide quality, safe child care and rehabilitation.
